Field Notes

Description:

Yellow and magenta orchid. It's dirty from being outside.

Habitat:

In a recess of an avocado tree in full to partial shade.

Notes:

This was an orchid purchased last year that was put on one of our avocado trees in a recessed area in hopes it would survive and bloom the next year. Amazingly it did with only the shade and a sprinkler! It survived over the mild San Diego winter outside with no problems :)

Here's a new mission you can join for orchids Cindy!! http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/9525140
Cindy, Phalaenopsis are kind of the beginner's orchid. They are very easy to care for and often thrive as a house plant with not much more care than other houseplants.
Thank you for the ID dandoucette! Alice, I always thought orchids were very hard to care for. At least very hands-on so I was quite surprised to find this in bloom after being untouched for a year outdoors. I'm afraid I took these photos after its prime but it's still beautiful!
In Florida it depends on the winter. The last two years, I would have brought my chocolate orchid in, but it does quite well in the Summer, fall and spring. Mine is hanging in a tangerine tree.
