Mantled howler monkeys are large and stocky with black fur, and most individuals have long, yellow or brown fur saddles. Long guard hairs are present on their flanks, earning the common name "mantled" howler monkey.

These individuals were commonly seen in small groups in the trees and crossing the foot bridge, via the cables, at the La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica.

Habitat:

Mantled howler monkeys inhabit lowland and montane rain forests, including primary and regenerated forest habitats.

Notes:

The mantled howler monkey is classified as endangered in the United States Endangered Species Act of 1991 and vulnerable in CITES Appendix I.

Lovely pictures, they are so cute. Their howling is kind of scary it sounds kind of aggressive!! I have not seen them around my house yet, I can only heard them every day.
Are those babies on their back? Lovely!
