Species ID Suggestions

I'd second the Cooper's Hawk suggestion. Young peregrines are definitely heavily streaked with reddish brown and the wide black bands on the tail are pretty typical of a Cooper's Hawk. These are really nice shots of a lovely bird. In the Boston area I think they're even less frequently seen than peregrines.
Molly, These are very nice shots--really like that first one. I'm wondering, however, about the ID. This doesn't quite look like a peregrine to me. An immature peregrine has a heavily streaked breast and this bird has a lightly streaked breast. An adult peregrine will have a black "mustache" and this bird doesn't appear to have that mustache. I think it may be a Coopers Hawk, a very nice find.
awesome encounter! lucky you!
