Description:

Some sort of gall. Kind of looks like hard dog poop.

Habitat:

temperate forest

Notes:

I spotted this in Woodend on the edge of the city. I heard somewhere that this was called dog poop gall, not sure what it is.

I'd noticed it on wild cherries for years, but my daughter, who studied fungi at college, was the one who identified it for me just this summer.
