Ashish Many such species find at low upto 5-20 meters above sea level to 5000 meters sea level. I saw many such herbs in India around Western ghat hills.
Behn Also looks good, I'd GUESS wrong though because of elevation. This was at around 1600 feet, in what is basically lowland forest, the Penstemon procerus is generally found at mid to high elevations, in the subalpine zone.
Ashish I have checked already... :) This is your flower...what I feel... http://www.pbase.com/rodg/image/73230842
Behn I've actually found Nothochelone nemorosa before, I'm pretty sure this wasn't it. Again, I wish I had photoed the rest of the plant.
AmberLundeen This is probably a better match - Straw woodland beardtongue http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symbol=NONE3&photoID=none3_005_ahp.tif
Behn The color is good for the Venus, but according to this it doesn't occur in the spot I found it. http://www.pnwflowers.com/flower/penstemon-venustus
AmberLundeen Venus Penstemon -Penstemon venustus http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/img_query?stat=BROWSE_IMG&query_src=photos_browseimgs_plant_com&where-genre=Plant&where-namesoup=Blue+Mountain+Penstemon&rel-namesoup=matchphrase&title_tag=Blue+Mountain+Penstemon
Behn Another really good suggestion, I wish I had taken a pic of the leaves, but this seems really likely.
Behn Hmm, I doubt it, the only Dopatrium in the US is Dopatrium junceus, which appears to not have appeared in Washington.
