Spider egg sac
40.0588, -83.7969
Field Notes
Description:
A few millimeters wide, brown/red.
Habitat:
Fen, attached to a leaf.
Notes:
Unfortunately, lighting wasn't the best in the field, so this is the only picture that turned out well enough to keep. This is an egg sac of a spider, either in the family Mimetidae (pirate spiders), or an egg sac of a ray spider (Theridiosomatidae), of which only two species occur in North America. These spiders suspend their egg sacs from a strand of silk and attach it to an object, such as a leaf.
