Thank you all.. I was thinking about the Kite too. Little Eagle I have to check out.
Beautiful fellow & lovely shots! I don't know anything about Australian birds. From the beak I lean more towards the Kite suggestion. The tail strikes me as odd for a Kite though (but like I say, I have no clue of Australian featherballs ;))
Underwing pattern and shape while gliding suggest whistling kite, but... could also be a little eagle? Hope someone else can confirm/infirm: it's a long time since I saw one of those in the flesh...
