Field Notes

Description:

both about1 1/4 inches

Habitat:

spotted in tall grass in median of highway

Notes:

I was crossing a major highway to take pictures in the woods beside the golf course. This scene happened as I waited in the median for traffic to clear. The whole event only took a few seconds (remined me of calf roping at the rodeo--in the last picture the "cowboy" throws up his hands and steps back from his quarry).

@Alice (or anyone that can help): It was suggested to me that this may be a phaon crescent butterfly rather than a pearl crescent. http://www.butterflyfunfacts.com/phaoncrescent.php Any thoughts on that?
I've added a photo of the butterfly that flew into theweb Am I correct that it's a pearl cresent, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pearl_Crescent?
I believe the spider is a yellow garden spider (Argiope aurantia), butI can't place the the little butterfly.
