Field Notes

Description:

red flowers opening gradually along a droopy stem, the florets lasting only about a day; leaves like iris or gladiolus, growing from corms. Perennial.

Habitat:

Native to South Africa, a cultivar here but it will naturalize anywhere you accidentally throw a corm.

Notes:

I like this red form better than the orange one, especially since it doesn't tend to clump & multiply quite as much.

Great picture! This is one of my favorite flowers. I am a professional gardener and I love to add it to bring the hummers into a garden.
I know what you mean! I have to drill myself to remember it, too. And you're right, the hummers are really loving it.
Nice pictures...and now I know the name...somehow, I can never remember the name of this great humming bird attractor.
