Montbretia
Crocosmia aurea
44.5238, -124.003
Field Notes
Description:
red flowers opening gradually along a droopy stem, the florets lasting only about a day; leaves like iris or gladiolus, growing from corms. Perennial.
Habitat:
Native to South Africa, a cultivar here but it will naturalize anywhere you accidentally throw a corm.
Notes:
I like this red form better than the orange one, especially since it doesn't tend to clump & multiply quite as much.
