Description:

Red flower. Looks similar to a bird of paradise. Withe some help, we've determined its a type of Heliconia.

Habitat:

Was in a botanical garden in Cairns, Qld, Australia

Notes:

Sorry about the quality. Disposable camera then scanned print.

That could well be it! Heliconia sp. possibly....
It does look like something similar to the bird of paradise, but it certainly isn't strelitzia family. I have seen something similar to this and I can't think for the life of me what it's called! They have similiar plants on Madeira, but not here in Portugal. If no one else comes up with an ID I'll look into it tomorrow for you. :)
