Description:

Stocky gray quail with black head plume with a brown crown, buff colored forehead, and scaled belly. Females less colorful.

Habitat:

Live-Oak canyons and nearby desert and suburbs, chaparral foothills

Notes:

These birds are quite beautiful, but a bit difficult to get up close to them.
