Field Notes

Description:

This non-local duck was spotted hanging out at a local pond with an escapee Bahama pintail. This is unfortunately my only shot a this stage.

Habitat:

Pond with reeds and dense vegetation. There are mostly mallards and tufted ducks at this pond, together with some Asian visitors! See nearby spottings.

Notes:

I hope to get more shots of this duck, especially the chest to help determine whether its male or female.
I saw the same duck last year at the same place, again with the Bahama pintail (I am assuming these are the same animals). See the 4th shot at:

Agree, a message system would be great (also to ask questions about places, etc). Maybe they don't do it yet for security reasons.

there should be some kind of a poke or a buzz on project noah i hope peter makes a note of it ,if u wanna let some one know about your spotting. is the pintail still around i am curious too keep me posted

No worries Atul, I'm glad you get to see it now. I am extremely curious as to whether it stays in the area for the winter or not (same for his escapee friend the Bahama pintail). Hopefully I'll be able to update on this.

I think you've nailed it Emma! Thanks! I wish I had a pic of its chest and feet but it looks pretty similar and matches the Wiki description. Interestingly this duck is South American like the escapee he was spotted with... They were swimming as a pair.
