Field Notes

Description:

Large mushroom (somewhere around 4-6 inches in diameter.) Very tightly packed spore tubes. Glandular Dots are very obvious. Others fruiting bodies were found in the area. Only grows around birch trees (a birch leaf can be seen in front of the mushroom.)

Habitat:

Mixed mountain forest. Mountain gorge.

Yea, there were a lot of Birch trees in the area.
If this was growing under a birch tree it's the Orange Birch Bolete (Leccinum versipelle) if not, then some Leccinum sp.
