@ Nicholas4 and Christian , I never had a chance to go thru the cactii recipe walk thru! @ Nicholas I will let you know as soon as I try these . Thanks again for your tips!!
Yes , I saw him!! He is sooo cute! Looks like he is having a good time! Living the Life!
@ Nicholas4 I will have to try this when my cactus pears are ripe! @ Emma.. He is in the under SUGAR CANE SNACK...this time.
Would love to see Boof again!
I have sugarcane in my backyard and everywhere around here.. just this morning I uploaded some photos of Boof eating sugarcane.. We all love it in this family. In India you get freshly pressed Juice everywhere. It is suppose to be good to cleanse the liver.. Here they just make BUNDY RUM!!
Wow Auntnance! To have it right in your backyard. When we were kids we just used to peel it off with our teeth, I like sugarcane juice with ginger in it!
Have sugarcane growing in the yard. And as kids we used to find it in the woods. Refreshing if someone had a good pocket knife.
Thanks. Hope Christian and Auntnance read this too! Have you eaten sugarcane?
Need to have two knives or at least one and a sharp stick about a foot long and as thick as a pencil. Carefully lance the fig and cut with knife. Place on flat surface gingerly as so the thorns are not broken up and forced into the fruit. Cut ends off with knife and then cut a slit the long way. Peal the skin on either side as far as U can and remove the meat of the fruit with your hand. The stick should be removed once you have the one side pealed and should be used to hold that side down as you peel the other side! Sounds like a lot but it takes just a few seconds once you got it down!! Enjoy!!
so Nicholas tell us all a easy way of peeling these !!
Nice shot Emma! Send some this way!!
My daughter loves cactus pears! They are available cleaned up in some markets around here, but I also know how to clean em up myself!! Great taste.. Sugary sweet!
Thanks Emma.. I tasted similar ones in Tunis.. Really sweet but also a pain to peal..
Christiane ,one of these days I plan on attending the Ruth Bancroft walk thru on edible cactii which includes tasting. Will keep you updated.
They're a real pain to prepare but they are edible.
