Field Notes

Description:

This insect has been sitting on my porch step all day. It was there when I left for work this morning and when I came home this evening it was still here.

Species ID Suggestions

Annual cicada

Tibicen sp.

Comments (1)

These cicadas are also known as "dog day cicadas" and they come out every year, unlike the periodical cicadas, which emerge every 13 or 17 years. Have you heard a lot of insect noise in the past few weeks? These guys are what you're hearing.
