I knew about scorpions under the UV. I had seen it on Discovery years ago, but I didn't know about the millipedes. When I was in Guyana in February a guide I had at Iwokrama Forest Reserve brought out a UV light on our hike unfortunately we didn't see anything but he was the first guide I'd ever seen with a UV light. I will try walking around with just it too.
That's great! I'm sure you'll get some great stuff. If you're anywhere near scorpions, shine your flashlight on them, you'll be in for a treat. Also, some millipedes glow under UV light, such as cherry millipedes, genus Sigmoria. If you go walking around just by UV light, you're likely to find some neat stuff.
Okay, thanks again. By the way, I've got a UV flashlight now that I'm going to use in a light trap. I'm going to try and attract insects at home and on my trip this year with it.
Unfortunately, you've got it about as far as I could right now, Pentatomidae. I've done very little research on them, and even less on ones in Asia. Beautiful pictures though, it's a very pretty brown color. Nice size too. I see that you have it tagged as a beetle though, shield bugs aren't beetles, but are true bugs, order Hemiptera. It has an elongated scutellum compared with other shield bugs I've seen, that might help you with its ID.
I never know where your spottings are going to come from next, Dan! It's great. Take me with you on your next trip haha.
