Notes:

the first possibility that came to mind was a juvenile fire tree but i could not find a mature tree near the place.

Oops......finally its routed to Fabaceae.... Tamarind.... !!
I did find a promising candidate, Mimosa diplotricha http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimosa_diplotricha http://www.weeds.org.au/cgi-bin/weedident.cgi?tpl=plant.tpl&state=&s=&ibra=all&card=S17
Thanks Ashish, Dan also thinks so but I still can't find one with leaves of four to five pinnae pairs. What makes the search harder is that this is a young plant. Photo was also taken early morning so leaves are probably just "opening." I must remind myself to take more notice of these when I go to the fields again.
Must be from Mimosaea family..
That's the place. Where one can find a lake within a lake ^_^
Okay, I've been to that area as well. The volcano is quite impressive with lake in the middle of a volcano which is also in the middle of a lake.
Yes, I see what you mean, Ian. It's something very similar though.
I'm currently based in Quezon City, but this spotting is in Batangas near the shore of Taal lake.
The first photo has leaves that seems to be folding but unlike Mimosa pudica that has leaves that are bipinnately compound, with one or two pinnae pairs, this one has four and five pairs.
No problem. I've seen many areas in the tropics where sensitive plants grow like this in a grassy clearing. They can be like a weed. Where are you based out of in The Philippines?
No I did not touch the plant, but i'll check the original photos if i can see anything to point in that direction if i zoom in. thanks dan.
Looks to me like Sensitive Plant - Mimosa pudica. Do the leaves fold when you touch it? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimosa_pudica
