Field Notes

Description:

A very elegant looking bird with beautiful crests on its head. The crests were highly sought after in England, and the bird was almost hunted to extinction. Thankfully, populations are back to healthy numbers today. An excellent diver and swimmer, it is extremely awkward on land. Performs ornate mating displays.

Habitat:

Freshwater lakes

Notes:

Spotted on the beautiful Lake Como, just outside the town of Bellagio. The second photo is just me bragging on the grebe's behalf to show you where he lived!

it is very nice and the background of the 2nd too. Super Laura and Merry Christmas ;)
Beautiful photo LauraMaria! I love the water and all the reflections and swirling colors...always my favorite kind of background. (as you might have noticed in a few of my pics). I hate being out on windy days, but that's when you get the best water effects! And...I've never even heard of that kind of Grebe before...pretty bird!
Thanks, yes it was a very beautiful place, what a lucky grebe :D
Lovely bird and a lovely place he has got :)
