Field Notes

Description:

Approximately 3 feet long with an all black with a few field marks. The bill is orange with a throat pouch and a downward tip at the end of the bill. Adults may have tufts on each side of the head. The neck is long and slender. Taking off from the water the bird takes a run while flapping it's wings, as seen in frames 2 & 3.

Habitat:

Lakes, rivers, swamps and backwater areas
