Field Notes

Description:

Large, black and white bird, large black strong beak, yellow eyes, black legs. Black feathers patched with white on wing primaries,, rump, base and tip of tail and lower under tail. loud, ringing call. Also known by names such as black magpie, bell magpie, chillawong, mountain magpie and others.

Habitat:

Found along eastern coastal and further inland parts of Queensland, NSW, Victoria and ACT.

Notes:

This photograph is of a baby (fledgling) waiting patiently for parents to bring food from surrounding tall forest.
