Field Notes

Description:

Every year hundreds of Eagles follow the salmon up the Skagit River. This adult was one of 20 spotted today, there will only be more and more until January. We were floating the river and since it was a bumpy ride, I had to crop most of them!

Habitat:

These are spotted in Skagit River, WA. They are found all through North America.

Notes:

Early morning feeds, I saw these just after they had finished eating. Mostly perched, some flew away as we got closer and a couple stayed put.

Luis: Thank you! I will be visiting this spot later in January to see the larger groups fly in. Jemma: Yes they are larger, and their wingspan is about 1 foot bigger!
I have been looking at these several spots of bald eagle and they seem to be larger than the turkey vultures we see out here!!
