Description:

member of the Kingdom Protista, the slime mold is often mistaken for a fungus. This is a multinucleate mass of cells that are simple and not differentiated. Weird stuff. This was seen at the beginning of the summer

Habitat:

a global species but found in moist areas such as your mulch

I also have a photo of a white one - havent posted yet. The spring here was really damp - had lots of snow. Happy slime mold hunting!
Wow. Two slime molds posted in one day. These really are fascinating little things. We're having a very wet late winter in Tasmania; so maybe I'll see some more this spring. I'd like to see the ruby one again and get better pictures.
