Habitat:

Approximately 160 species of chameleon range from Africa, Madagascar, Spain and Portugal, across south Asia, to Sri Lanka, have been introduced to Hawaii, California and Florida, and are found in warm habitats that vary from rain forest to desert conditions. I found it in a home garden at Khatima, Uttarakhand, India.

I don't know it's name either, I just know it's not a chameleon. I checked through my Field Guide to Indian Reptiles but didn't see any lizards that were a match.
You may right, dandoucette! But in my local area people call it Girgit means chameleon. I do'nt know its real name!
Raavendra, this is not a chameleon. It doesn't have the independently moving eyes or a prehensile tail that are some of the distinguishing features of chameleons. It's a lizard of some sort.
