Long-spurred Meadow Katydid
Orchelimum silvaticum
39.6822, -86.1853
Field Notes
Description:
Bright green katydid with orange eyes. I believe this is a female based on the long, curved appendage protruding from the abdomen. My favorite detail are the ridges running across the thick part of her hind legs. Also, her antennae were incredibly long--extending far beyond the frame of the photo.
Habitat:
Native to the mid-west and eastern United States, I found this one clinging to the inside of my screened-in porch. Judging by the sounds rising from the woods in my back yard, there's plenty more of these out there.
