Description:
This doe (female adult) was calm, and foraging on a hillside near the Chatahoochee River. It heard us walking on a lightly travelled road, and quietly ran away a few steps, resumed eating, then ran off to the other side of the hill. it never raised its tail. We were about 80 yards away.
White tailed deer are prolific breeders in the Southeast USA. Hunting (by humans with guns or bows&arrows) is allowed and encouraged in many areas. This particular area was not a hunting area.
Habitat:
Woods, edge of woods, suburban backyards and farms (where they are considered pests).
