Field Notes

Description:

Slightly smaller than a robin. White/grey underbelly with brown speckled breast, brown to reddish brown on top. Small beak. Moved quickly through the underbrush.

Habitat:

Underbrush in deciduous hardwood forest.

Notes:

I think I've narrowed it down to either a veery or hermit thrush. That may be as far as I can get with this relatively unhelpful photo. I did not hear this bird make any calls, that would have helped a lot.

In this location, it's almost definitely a Hermit.
Does it have a rufous tail? If so, then Hermit Thrush. If not, then Swainson's. (I'm colorblind, so I can't make the call by myself.)
