Description:

these caterpillars start out creamy white and turn orange as they age. this one might be about 8 days old. about 2" long, extremely hairy, orange down the back, yellow on the side

I spotted this while working on the gardens at Oak Hall.

I see, well, it's something very close anyway.
According to wikipedia - it should have consistent coloring http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spilosoma_virginica
It does look very, very similar. You think it's too orange or the tiger moth doesn't have the yellow sides?
This makes me think of a Virgina Tiger moth but I'm not sure the coloring is right http://www.pbase.com/rcm1840/image/116868735
