Species ID Suggestions

Emma, I like to take a close up, a far away, and as many angles as I can...especially if it's a plant and it holds still. :-) The critters are not as easy sometimes to get multiple angles. Also, I found it helps to have a size reference for some things. Isn't this scrutinizing fun?
Sounds like fun. By scrutinizing, you mean, documenting all the flora and fauna you are seeing?
Dan I am scrutinizing a 10 mile radius of my surroundings in the Foothills of Mt Diablo, before I begin Mt Diablo.
That's a great idea. That will definitely help with ID.
To be able to Id easily I am going to start taking two pictures, one from near and one from far.
I think you're right Emma. I was thinking something else more tropical. With just seeing the leaves this close it was hard to tell. I like Daphne, they smell great!
@Dan,if I am not mistaken this is "Daphne. odora 'Aureomarginata'". This is native to China and Japan.
Dan, yes, the leaf is longer and "thicker" looking than the hostas I've seen in my yard, and garden centers...but that was the closest I could think of.
Heather I think this is something more tropical. Am I right, Emma? Where did you see it? I know I've seen it before on my travels or at a greenhouse but can't remember the name. Maybe ceherzog can help.
