SORRY BAYUCCA, I DON´T HAVE REVIEWED THE COMMENTS OF MY PUBLICATION, THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR ID!!!
Do not forget to add the common name: Tarantula Hawk Wasp.
THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR HELP!
Mine has bright yellow antennae - I have uploaded it: http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/16361205
Yes, I know you get beetles from your kids where other mums get flowers... The wasp is actually not killing the tarantula, but paralyze it and pulls it in its den as food for the larva, quite a rude thing.
The tarantulas are going to have to take care of themselves - the wasp has to eat too (or feed it's larva) - every arthropod for itself! I've been known to rescue beetles from spider webs I admit - I have a soft spot for them. I did see a tarantula in the yard not too long ago - we uncovered it while doing some yard clean up.
Take care of your tarantulas!
I just now saw one of these in my backyard and was wondering what it was...now I know!
Another thing about these "+". If you collect 3 "+" the ID is no more "unknown", so, please, join my Pepsis sp. ;-)...
Oh, that happens to me all the time ;-)...! Sometimes I have 20 windows open, looking for some IDs and at the end some people were much quickier than me...
sorry, I took a little more time to put mine, I did not see you id... until I posted mine, I know what you mean about "useless"...
Hola Carlos. If you agree with a already existing suggestion you should make an additional "+", not adding the same suggestion again, unless there is something completely wrong with it or you do not agree. Thanks.
Check these ones from US for Mexico: http://bugguide.net/node/view/3920/bgpage
