Field Notes

Description:

"The Secretarybird or Secretary Bird is a large, mostly terrestrial bird of prey. Although a member of the order Accipitriformes, which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as kites, buzzards, vultures, and harriers, it is given its own family, Sagittariidae."

Habitat:

Endemic to Africa, it is usually found in the open grasslands and savannah of the sub-Sahara.

Notes:

Messager sagittaire in French, part of the Serpentaires family.
This one can be observed in the Pairi Daïza park in the south of Belgium which combine zoo and natural reserve to protect and study mostly birds from all around the world.
