Description:
The adults are about 18 cm (7 in) long. They have black and white stripes on their heads and a white crown, from which they derive their name. Their upper parts are streaked with browns and grays Their throats and shoulders are grayish.
Habitat:
I found this one feeding near the treeline in Glacier National Park (Montana), but they nest across northern Canada and the western US in brushy areas.
