Description:

Small - abt 2" - orange, brown, black with white spots, fuzzy near the body

Habitat:

Pacific Northwest, valley surrounded by mountains, edge of fir/hemlock forest

Notes:

Very fast moving! Hard to get a good shot

This may be of help. http://bugguide.net/node/view/297/bgpage Additionally, as I am looking at your images, the fourth image appears to be a different species. The edges of the wings are more "rough" looking to me.
The white fleck on the underside of the wing is definitive - yes? I'm trying to learn what to watch for, what to photograph. Catching on slowly. Thank you all so much for the help.
Definitely an Anglewing (Polygonia) of some sort!
I chased it around with a camera for an hour...it simply wouldn't settle for long. Fascinating creature. Thanks for the ID
