Description:

There much have been a bumper crop of crawfish, because the night herons did not care how close I was getting while they were hunting at the water's edge, gorging themselves on a tasty lunch! And nearby, a young American Alligator fed on the crawfish as well, as it hid quietly in the duck weed.

Habitat:

Swamp

Wow that sure looks delicious. Congratulations.
Excellent spot, congrats !!!
Congratulations for your spotting of the day reward and your photos!
Thanks so much everyone! I remember this being such a perfect day for photos. The birds and alligators were active, the temperature was perfect, and there was a nice cloud cover to prevent over-saturation. It was the trifecta!
Welcome to the Community My Wildhood, and congratulations, your great capture has been chosen Spotting of the Day! Although crustaceans make up the majority of their diet, yellow-crowned night herons have been known to snap up lizards, snakes, young birds, mice, and even small rabbits!
