Field Notes

Description:

A colony of weaver ants attempting to bridge a gap between a papaya (Carica papaya) tree leaf branch (not pictured) and a Fig (Ficus sp.) tree branch (shown here) using their bodies.

Habitat:

Large semi-urban yard/garden adjacent to a disturbed remnant patch of forest.

Notes:

These ants are very defensive/aggressive. They have a distinct odor. Grateful for a confirmation of species ID.

Yes! They got me good on the day before I photographed them just walking by (before they were building the "bridge").
I,m very scared of them, they bite and its painful, they are very quick to attack.
I think they are Pagoda ants.
