Field Notes

Description:

This picture was taken the day we found it in the middle of an avenue and, since then, it has been my pet.

Habitat:

All over Brazil and most part of South America

Notes:

she eats mostly tropical fruits like papaya, mango, guava, avocado etc and leaves like lettuce and "vinagreira". It has necessity for protein, so she eats cat food once a week. The specialists often recommend calcium supplementation, but I have seen some old individuals that are large and healthy without any supplementation.
They are very common in the countryside and I'm not sure, but I think there aren't any wild ones in the island. This one was probably abandoned or fled from a house. They can be found in pet shops for sale and are very expensive, but they are very common outside the island living in the wild.
