Field Notes

Description:

Vermilion colour with dark grey wings and eye stripe. Short pointed beak.

Habitat:

Hotel ground in Guadalajara, Mexico. Sitting on an African tulip flower tree...the flowers gave it stiff competition, colour-wise! The second shot shows both the bird and the flowers.

Notes:

First time I ever saw this bird. Reportedly, its colour fades in captivity.

Thank you, Neil.My few days in Guadalajara ...actually the pre breakfast morning walk in the hotel grounds were priceless...it was a sprawling campus....many blocks just 2 stories high...lots of greenery and water plus breakfast buffet for opportunistic birds....I saw what we lost by having soul less steel and glass multi storeyed hotels. So many lifers, Neil, Mexico was magnificent.
