1 1/2inches tall, charcol gray, smoothand dry with red droplets on top

Habitat:

spotted in a nursery pot with a dead raphis palm

Sorry to be so long in responding, Clive; but I appreciate the ID. As far as the red, I've read that "weeping" is a by-product of metabolism.
