Description:
An eastern US species that gets one of its common names from the "wings" or ridges along its leaf midribs. The fruits provide food for wildlife and it is valued as a landscaping ornamental including for erosion control. The species is prevalent in patches in the tall grass prairie at this location.
Habitat:
Tallgrass prairie. Prairie State Park - Mindenmines, Missouri.
