Castilleja is a notoriously difficult genus for differentiating down to the species. Color alone is totally unreliable. Much more possible with a dichotamous key.

There are several species of Castilleja in the area in which the photo was taken. The crista-galli is listed north of this location in Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho, but it could be here as well, just not reported. Cool photo. One of my favorite flowers!
