Mitch Ray will know he is a Biologist Graduate. ;)
Or maybe they just don't like SouthAmerica :D
There are several knowledgeable people on here such as MitchRey and Caroline that may know more about this! :)
They claim its a mystery? I think they either have not been spotted? Or it has something to do with crossing the water or maybe there are a lot of predators in that region?
Interesting! :D Wonder why not :)
Nicole your right, I got a link there's several species in Africa and Europe, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crane_%28bird%29 But no cranes in South America.
Not the ones from Africa, nope. :) Too much water. Those guys go the other direction, Europe and such.
I wonder if those birds migrate to US ? Or South America?
NoNo, the birds are there :) Just not many people recording them 'Birders' :-) Most birds down there only come through on migration though.
Oh that's very interesting! I wonder why there are not many birds there? I notice these birds like fresh water marshs and lakes. They roost in trees and in the mornings fly to the nearby water supply and then eat bugs in fields, meadows and cow pastures. Then at the end of the day they go to roost in the tall pine trees.
Checked. It was a Common Crane. I don't know how common or uncommon they are down there (South Sinai). Sadly, the birding community there is tiny :/
I would have to check what crane it was. It was only one and during migration. Maybe he thought, he's a stork? :)
Thank You. I did not know they are also in Egypt? There are a lot of them here in Florida. :)
Wonderful spotting! I love cranes, only got to see one from far away in Egypt (hiding - or trying to hide) between storks) :D
Hi, Emma, Yes they must stand around 4 feet tall, almost as tall as me! LOL
These seem tall! Quite big birds!
