Field Notes

Habitat:

Farmlands

Notes:

Was on the stairs in the back garden. Had very warty skin.
Apparently, this one is still a "baby", according to my gran they can grow to the size of my palm, this one was a lot smaller.
Oh and before I forget, the Hungarian name: Varangyos Béka (litt: Warty frog). It supposedly has poisonous spit.

Species ID Suggestions

European Green Toad

Bufo viridis

If you live close to an urban settlement you might add this to the Urban biodiversity-mission
The skin is the only toxic area of the toad, the two biggest warts behind each eye is producing most of the bufotoxin(general term), but will not excrete it unless it fears for its life. Not harmful for humans, but will cause nausea if ingested.
In this area of Hungary (Györ) we many of these toads this spring. It was fun watching them jumping walking and.. around. At the evening it was sometimes ab bit loud :-(. Maybe you connect your spottings to the "Pannonian wildelife" mission I just created. It would fit perfectly.
Yeah she (? really? how can you tell?) did...five mins later when I went back I could no longer find her :) Why isnt there a Mission involving amphibians?! Amphibians of the World or something similar....wanted to add this toad :(
