Field Notes

Description:

Green-eyed bee. Has a lighter, fluffy face and is very fast. Attacks other bees and even giant bumble bees by knocking them out in mid flight. Regularly inspects it's area for intruding bees.

Notes:

Thanks to Martin Moore from RBKA, Florin (Museum ID team) from the Natural History Museum and KristalWatrous who ID'ed for me.

@KristalWatrous - Thank you very much for the ID :-D I've found some more information which confirms it's behaviour too.
Excellent photos... good luck with the ID!
This looks a lot like Anthophora bimaculata: http://www.discoverlife.org/mp/20q?search=Anthophora+bimaculata, http://www.flickr.com/photos/camerar/775405146/, http://www.flickr.com/photos/49124895@N03/5960019676/.
A brilliant photo, stunning clarity. It looks like one of the digger bees to me, something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amegilla_quadrifasciata.
Hi. Try this site, it can be very helpful: http://bugguide.net/node/view/15740
I think this bee could be from genus Centris. Can anyone confirm?
