Looking at some photos, Dan, I think I'd go with Augochloropsis.
At least we've got it narrowed down to a family. Let's see if we can get the exact species now!
I was going to say the same thing. I've never seen a green bee. I found the same family as well and BugGuide.net saying it is maybe Augochlorella, Augochlora, or Augochloropsis. http://bugguide.net/node/view/5638/bgimage Welcome to Noah from me too.
Google's a wonderful thing. :D Looks like family Halictidae (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halictidae), possibly Agapostemon sp. And welcome to Project Noah. :)
