Field Notes

Description:

Native hardwood often found growing along the coast. This specimen planted from a seed sapling. "The tree is today chiefly valued for its hardiness and beauty as an ornamental tree that provides shade and shelter from the wind on streets, in parks, and in coastal areas. The wood is a prized timber for carving, cabinetmaking, and boat building."

Habitat:

This spotting planted in a large semi-urban yard/garden adjacent to a disturbed remnant patch of forest.
