Description:

Gloriosa is a genus of five or six species in the plant family Colchicaceae, from tropical Africa and Asia. They are tender, tuberous rooted deciduous perennials, adapted to summer rainfall with a dormant dry season.

Habitat:

Their native range is Africa, Southeastern Asia and parts of Malaysia, but they are now widely cultivated.

Notes:

Nice looking flowers. Looks like a picture of burning flame.

Wow! Want this plant for my garden (if i had one ><)
Gloriosa produces colchicin, which disrupts cell division by disintegrating microtubules, and thereby hindering segregation of chromosomes. In that sense it may be called toxic or carcinogenic.
this plant has surely got beautiful flower. but its described as highly toxic.
I've seen these flowers here in Portugal too, but rarely. They are amazing. A great spotting!
