Okay, according to Wikipedia, it's Vespula, but according to my book, it's Vespa. Hmm. It also says that it was introduced to your area, whereas where I am, it's a native species. :)
Lol, sorry, I couldn't remember the scientific name! Vespa germanica (German Wasp) is identified and separated from the Polistes gallicus (Paper Wasp) by the hair on its abdomen. (Paper wasp is smooth). :)
