Field Notes
Description:
Long-legged wader, with a fine, straight, black bill. Legs extend out backwards when flying, black wings and white body.
Habitat:
Frequents areas of shallow fresh, brackish or salt water. Migratory, generally wintering in Africa. Food mainy insects. Nest is lined scrape on islet or near water, occasionally a raised mound of vegeation in shallow water.
Notes:
Spotted on salt beds in the Rio Formosa National Park area. (21/8/11 - one photo of poor quality deleted, one new photo added taken exactly the same place, even the same salt bed, one week later on 20/8/11. New photo is now the first photo.)
