Field Notes

Description:

For males they are black with bright yellow eyes. Strongly iridescent, with a bright blue or purplish-blue sheen on the head, while the body is greenish. Bill and legs black. For females, they are light brownish-gray and unstreaked, with darker wings and tail and dark eyes.

Habitat:

They are associated with agricultural fields that have brushy edges. They can be found in other open areas, including parks, campgrounds, parking lots, wetlands, and suburban and urban settings.
