Field Notes

Description:

Slightly smaller than a Robin. Body is completely black with red to orange upper wing with yellow patch on the end of the red to orange upper wing.
Males are very territorial and stake out territories near bodies of water they defend. They are very vocal when other Red-wings and other intruders are visible.

Habitat:

Marshes, swamps, meadows and pastures
