Field Notes

Description:

Small nest made out of mud or similar substance. It's on a weed, don't know the name of it but it has sticky leaves. No sign of the bug that lives here, unfortunately.

Notes:

Without seeing the wasp itself, it's impossible to put a scientific name to this spotting.

I have moved this spotting to Arthropods for you :-)
Wow, thanks, Alice. Didn't know that. The pots are really cool, just so well formed and the shape is amazing. You can't help but respect Nature.
I have the same nest on the entrance screen around the front door and later I was able to find the wasp that likely made it. A potter wasp. I think these pots are really neat. They put an insect and an egg in them and seal it. That way the egg has something to eat.
Auntnance is correct - here's another link http://naturalsciences.org/microsites/notebook/inverts/potter_wasp.html
I've seen the houses these fellars make before, but never that shape. But you're right, potter wasp. Thanks! :)
Potter wasp? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potter_wasp I have seen some that are 'seriously tiny' also.
That's what I thought, but it was seriously tiny, definitely no more than 1.5cm across. And perfectly round. Nature is amazing.
Maybe some type of wasp? They kind of make nests like that.
Sorry, my internet threw a tantrum and it wiped the description. Also shouldn't be a plant. Will change that in a minute. Yeah, it's a tiny nest made out of mud or something, on a weed (don't know the name of it). No bug in sight, unfortunately.
What is that? Some kind of nest? It's on rosemary?
